In late September, I traveled to Haiti with chef Paul Toussaint, of Agrikol to work with him on one of his projects. On our trip was also chef Jouvens Jean. He came to fulfill a mission. Jouvens got wind that ETFAG – Ecole Technique Frere Andre Guimond, located in La-Vallee-de-Jacmel was no longer receiving the funds to feed the students.
Jouvens organized a task force. Chefs Paul and Melissa Francois joined without hesitation. It’s impressive to see the amount of work that goes into preparing a meal for close to 700 people. From running the errands to cutting vegetables and stepping out to go get the last-minute local spices. Everyone came together.
I witnessed pure joy and excitement from the children. I was moved. Overwhelmed. I put my camera down and passed down the plates knowing that, that night, no one would go to bed hungry.
